Learn how to grow your own sprouts
Recipe for Alfalfa Sprouts
For enough sprouts to grow in a quart jar, you need to start with one clean quart jar and one tablespoon of alfalfa sprouts.
1) Place one tablespoon of alfalfa seeds in a clean quart jar.
2) Soak seeds in cold water over night.
3) Rinse seeds twice and use strainer to remove water.
4) Rotate jar so the seeds spread out evenly.
5) Leave in cool, dry area of indirect light and repeat steps 3 and 4 twice a day.
6) Sprouts grow and are ready to eat in 3 to 5 days.
7) When sprouts turn green, wash and refrigerate. Then eat them up!
Learn about bulk foods
Buying food in bulk is really the key to living simply and on a small budget:1) Research your local food co-ops in the phone book or on the internet.
2) Ask your local grocery chains. Most will sell in bulk at around a 10% reduction in price.
3) Look for specials and price reductions.
4) Get in touch with local truck farmers and orchard operators.
